We all get burnt out from our business from time to time.

Maybe you're not getting the extra sales or clients you'd like. Or perhaps you're doing ok, but you find yourself working 12 or 14 hour workdays (or more) just to keep your business afloat.

You might even be "booked solid" in your business, but that means loads of work lined up. Yeah, it pays the bills and lets you work from home. But is it really on your terms?

This was also the first year I broke a six-figure mark and doubled it from there on.

For about a year, one of my personal coaches told me to work harder, longer hours, go out and meet more people, travel several times a month to various networking events, and so on. Basically he was telling me I had to do the opposite of everything I wanted.

That's easier said than done when you are raising a family. Ultimately I was forced to resist his advice and look for other ways to achieve my goals--without the back-aching hours and precious time away from my family.

"My Coach Was Wrong!"

I was happy to say it. Thrilled, actually. But in all fairness, he didn't know what I know now. And what I eventually learned that completely transformed the way I was doing business.

I discovered that you CAN build a business on your own terms without sacrificing what's most important to you.

Automated Income Stream: An automated income stream is a source of revenue on autopilot. In most cases you can think of it as a "set it and forget it" solution. However, you may have seen a lot of forced continuity offers as of late, where you buy a low-priced item, and hidden in the fine print (or in some of the worst offenders not revealed at all) is some verbiage that essentially says you'll agree to let your credit card be charged each month to receive their "newsletter" or other subscription.

This is called "hidden forced continuity," and not only can it be unethical if it's done poorly, it's also illegal if they don't reveal the terms up front.

When I talk about an automated income stream, I'm not referring just to continuity programs, even though I will show you 5 different continuity streams you SHOULD be using right now. What I really mean, though, is a source of revenue that keeps coming in no matter what you're doing. You could be sleeping. You could be golfing or playing tennis, or going for a hike with your friends, or taking your kids out to a ballgame. It doesn't matter.

But the defining factor of an automated income stream is that it's always filling up your bank account. No more trading time for money.

The notion that so many hours translate into profits is something that may take some getting used to. At first you feel it's too good to be true, that you're somehow "cheating" somebody or some system. But you're not. It's completely ethical and a very rewarding way to earn a living.

And that brings me to the second strategy for success:

Rinse and Repeat: Once you have your first automated income stream producing a steady profit center for you, it's time to multiply the stream. You've already got one under your belt, and it's a lot easier the second and third time around.

This is where your income really begins to grow exponentially. And the best part is you're still not trading your time for money. That means more revenue streams doesn't necessarily equal more work for you. You can still take those vacations and spend some leisure time with your family and friends, knowing that lots of zeros are still flowing into your bank account!

Systematizing: As you begin to add more profit streams, it becomes more important for you to systematize the way you do things. Every task and procedure in your business should fit into your system somewhere. A good system lets your business operate like a well-oiled machine, a precision instrument, a thing of beauty. AND, it helps to reinforce the notion that you are not trading time for money.

Systems can take a while to develop, though, as you tweak this and fix that, and learn from your mistakes over time.

Employing A Highly Skilled Virtual Support Team: Finally, you have your income streams in place. Your systems are supporting your business nicely. I recently had a call with one of my new coaching students. Let's call her "Sue."

As I began to learn about Sue's goals and desires, I realized it was a familiar story. I had been there before, and I knew what both sides of success can feel like. Sue was recounting an all too familiar story about where she wanted to go, and the methods she had been using to become more successful. In short, Sue reminds me a lot of myself not long ago.

She is hungry for success, but is torn between her business and her family. Guilt is a constant feeling, because while she works, she doesn't spend time with her kids or husband. She watches others rise to success and wonders what she's doing wrong, and why can't she grow faster.
